Life After Cancer: Reverting to Old Habits

A friend and I were talking about people we knew who had been diagnosed with cancer and went through various forms of treatments.  We discussed those who had begun smoking again, drinking again, and letting their nutrition go once they were in remission and even sometimes while still fighting. ⁣

So why does this happen?

Unscathed

Sometimes when there is a cancer diagnosis in a lucky location and low stage that the only thing required is surgery and the patient can move on with their life rather quickly without having to talk about or go through chemo, hormone therapy, or radiation.

Those people are incredibly fortunate and come out on the other side unscathed. Maybe even invincible. ⁣

Usually without feeling as though they need to change their lifestyle or other risk factors at all.  This is extremely common.

Patients revert back to their old comfortable ways of living.⁣ ⁣

As human beings…⁣ We are the way we are because we have been doing it repetitively for our entire lives.⁣

It’s extremely difficult to unlearn old habits all on our own. ⁣

This just goes to show how important it is to have a coach.

Not just for patients but for caregivers and family members too…⁣

It’s not as simple as just following a weekly meal plan. ⁣

With my clients there is always a lot of deep internal work.⁣

We NEED SUPPORT when breaking old habits.⁣

We NEED SUPPORT when changing our mindset.⁣

We NEED SUPPORT when CHANGING OUR LIVES.

We NEED (and crave) ACCOUNTABILITY. ⁣

And there ain’t no shame in any of that. ⁣

⁣We often think, we don’t need mentors or coaches, because we have good friends and family. Which is AWESOME and something to be celebrated.

But there is such a difference when talking to someone who has a non biased opinion of your life.

Someone who makes YOUR GOALS and YOUR WINS their number one priority.

Someone who holds you accountable.

Someone who hypes you up when you need it most.

Last but not least, someone who asks you how you are and truly means it.

Investing in yourself can be absolutely terrifying.

For me, when I first started years ago, the scariest part was knowing, I actually had to follow through on my goals.

Sometimes we put others ahead of ourselves for such a long time that we don’t even remember what it’s like to spend time or money on what our hearts truly desire and what our bodies actually need.

So actually taking the time and money to invest in our own self worth can feel so uncomfortable. But no one ever grows from staying in their comfort zone

It’s when we revert back to what’s comfortable that things actually get HARDER

We have every intention to live our best life, whether that be after a cancer diagnosis, or while you’re a care giver, or a mom trying to do her best ever day.

We always have good intentions.

But sometimes we end up passing down unhealthy habits again and again.

From generation to generation.

All because we stayed in our comfort zone.

All because we didn’t ask someone to guide us and help move us forward.

So what’s it gonna be?

Your comfort zone?

Or leveling up to your healthiest happiest self?

I’m ready when you are.

THE TIME IS NOW!

ready to level up?

I’d love to talk to you about your wellness journey.
