raise your hand if you have anxiety!
Sometimes I find myself crippled with panic attacks and occasional spells of agoraphobia. It’s something that’s been an on going issue for me for years but for the most part I have it under control, but like with everything in life sometimes it just sneaks up on me. I’ve found using my smart watch one of the best tools to manage anxiety ever!
heart-rate monitoring
I can’t tell you how many times I have been thinking “omg I am so anxious I am gonna freak out” and then I check my FitBit and my heart rate is only 90 beats per minute (this is about average for me). Checking to see that my heart rate is much lower than the 160BPM that it felt like in my head, helps to calm me down QUICK!
Being able to check my pulse on the fly helps to puts my racing thoughts back into thinking logically rather than being controlled by complete panic and fear. Shortly after, my heart rate will slow to a nice 75-85 (yes, this is my resting/sleeping heart rate).
meditation sessions
My FitBit (and most other smart watches) have built in breathing exercises that you can use to help calm you down and ground yourself. With the watch I have, I tell it that I want to do a relaxation session, then the watch senses my breathing pattern. Next, a cute little animation pops up on the screen showing me when to inhale and exhale. This tool is great for flying, stressful traveling, or even calming down before a big meeting at the office.
step goals
Setting a daily step goal for myself helps me to make sure I get out of the house. Working from home can make it so easy to get stuck in the indoor land of digital screens all day. If I get out of the house at least once a day, I know that agoraphobia won’t have a chance to creep back in. Plus you know, a little vitamin D never hurt nobody.
so, where is my #FitBit gang at?
Let’s do some step challenges!

Here’s the link to the exact FitBit I use and love (FitBit Charge 2), but I know there are many trusted and loved smart watches out there, so I included a few extras too.
