Notes on Nutrition...
Let me to introduce you to my favorite Vegan Bacon that's better than the real deal!
Tempeh Bacon is the perfect addition to any salad, sandwich, breakfast, pasta, well any dish actually.
What is tempeh?
Tempeh is fermented soy. No, it's not as gross as it sounds, fermented foods are amazing for gut health, and we should be eating more of them.
Did you know that soy is a plant-based complete protein with all nine essential amino acids? This means it's packed with nutrition and protein!
Tempeh is rich in iron, magnesium, manganese, and potassium making it the perfect swap to high fat bacon! You can throw this bacon on just about anything from sandwiches, to bacon, to pasta and it'll taste amazing.
Your house will smell amazing!
The smell of this plant-based bacon is really something magical. If you didn't know better you'd think it was the real deal just by the delicious smell.
How does tempeh bacon add up next to pork bacon?
- Saturated Fat:
Pork Bacon: 4g
Tempeh: 4g
- Protein:
Pork Bacon: 12g
Tempeh: 31g
*These numbers are without the nutritional data from the spices in the tempeh bacon marinade, which will lightly inflate the sodium and fat. Measured at 4 slices pork bacon vs 1 cup tempeh bacon*
Slice Tempeh into thin slices (horizontally)
Mix all other ingredients in a flat bottom container that has a lid
Add tempeh to marinade mixture and let sit for at least 2 hours, even better if you can do overnight
Preheat oven to 425°
Remove tempeh bacon from the marinade and lay slices flat onto a baking sheet (you can cover the sheet with foil if you want easy clean up)
Set marinade aside (you'll want it later)
Bake on 425° for 10 minutes on one side, flip, and then bake for another ten minutes
Before removing the bacon from the pan, drizzle some of the additional marinade over the bacon to give it a fresh most and greasy touch.
Enjoy!
