Buddha Bowls, Harvest Bowls, Veggie Bowls…

Whatever you call them. They are my favorite go to dish in the whole world!

What is a Buddha Bowl?

Basically the whole buddha bowl concept came from how buddhist monks go out to the villagers with a bowl in their hands. The villagers then provide vegetarian food as offerings to the monks.  Resulting in a beautiful and nutritious bowl to keep them fueled through out the day.

How to make a buddha bowl

Create a base of whole grains – (brown rice, wild rice or quinoa),  a bed of greens (kale, rainbow chard, or spinach), or both!

Add a variety of vegetables.

Cover it with a delicious and nutritious sauce – (like salsa or tahini).

Why I love them

As a Nutritionist I always recommend these to my clients because these veggie harvest bowls are so versatile, balanced, and packed with nutrition!

Buddha bowls can take on any type of flavor plus it’s an easy way to get in a serving of whole grain fiber and vegetables.

I’ve collected some of my very favorite deliciously balanced bowls for you to enjoy!

I recommend these recipes to anyone who’s just starting out with healthy cooking because you really can’t go wrong.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with using different vegetables and grains. This is about getting in a decent serving of vegetables so if you’re new to eating more veggies, simply start out with the ones you already know you like. When your feeling adventurous try some new ones and create a whole new bowl recipe.
