Don’t toss your leftover watermelon this summer. Instead, cut half of it into cubes and freeze them for a hot summer day, and then whip up a cool frozen watermelon margarita slushy. I was counting down the days all year until it was warm enough to spend the day out by the pool and come in and blend up one of these Watermelon Slushies! This summer drink feels like a sweet treat but is actually made without any added sugar.

Made with frozen watermelon, water, and lime juice, this icy drink is perfect for sipping by the pool or cooling off at a backyard barbecue. It’s easy to make, takes under 5 minutes and your friends will love it.

Turn this watermelon slushy into a frozen margarita by simply adding your favorite tequila to the recipe. Or if you’re feeling fancy, try out an alcohol-free tequila. So grab your blender and get ready to cool off with this tasty cocktail!

Tips for the Perfect Frozen Margarita Slushy

1. Consistency Matters

For a thicker slushy, use less water, pulse in your blender, and enjoy with a spoon. This will result in a more snow cone-like texture that is perfect for hot summer days. If you prefer a thinner slushy, slowly add more water and blend for a longer period of time until you reach your desired consistency.

2. Sweetener is Optional

While this frozen drink recipe is delicious on its own, if you’re looking for something sweeter you can adjust the sweetness of your slushy by adding a touch of honey, agave, or monkfruit sweetener. These natural sweeteners will enhance the flavor of your slushy without overpowering it, plus they go great with the watermelon and lime flavors. Start by adding a small amount and taste as you go to get the perfect level of sweetness.

3. Garnish to your Hearts Desire

For me, a summer drink isn’t complete unless it’s garnished with a slice of lime and Tajin. Experiment with different garnishes to take your slushy to the next level. Fresh mint leaves can add a refreshing twist, a few jalapeño slices can give it an extra kick, while a slice of watermelon can make this frozen cocktail even more Instagramable.

Health Benefits of Watermelon

Nutrient-Rich

Watermelon is sweet and delicious and packed with nutrients like Vitamin C and A. These vitamins are essential for boosting the immune system and promoting healthy skin and vision.

Low-Calorie Hydration

One of the key health benefits of watermelon is its high water content, which helps keep the body hydrated, which is especially great after a long day at the beach or out by the pool. Plus, watermelon is low in calories, making it a perfect summer treat that is just as satisfying as a few scoops of gelato.

Antioxidant Properties

Watermelon contains antioxidants such as lycopene, beta-carotene, and cucurbitacin E, which can be beneficial in overall health and wellness. These antioxidants can help protect the body from oxidative stress and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Variations of Watermelon Margarita Slushy

1. Tropical Twist

For a refreshing tropical twist on the classic watermelon margarita slushy, try blending other frozen fruits like strawberries or pineapple with watermelon and lime juice for a burst of flavor that’s perfect for summer sippin’.

2. Different Spirits

If you’re looking to switch up the flavor profile of your watermelon margarita slushy, consider substituting the tequila with rum or vodka. Rum will add a hint of sweetness, while vodka will give more of a clean and crisp taste. Experiment with different spirits to find your perfect combination. Chill your alcohol of choice for an even colder beverage.

3. Alchohol-Free Version

If you prefer a non-alcoholic frozen margarita recipe, you can easily make a virgin version of the watermelon margarita slushy by omitting the alcohol. Blend the watermelon, lime juice, and water for a refreshingly hydrating treat. This refreshing and delicious mocktail is perfect for hot summer days.
